Scarification and Branding is another type of Body Modification.  This has been used all over the world for cultural identity and community status. In the United States scarification emerged in  San Fransisco in the mid 1980's. Over the last seven or eight years,  scarification has become remarkably widespread in the U.S., Australia and across Europe, from London to Prague.

Scarification is done by either repeated cuts with a scalpel, a cauterizing tool or strike branding, which is like cattle branding.This art is centuries old just being picked up again in today's society.Branding is when a white hot object is used, normally some sort of metal, that is pressed into flesh until it permanently scars the tissue.
